After sleeping in every day last week due to my head cold, I finally found it in me to get out and get a great workout done this morning! I had my last set of Yasso 800’s to tackle, and quite frankly, I kicked their butt! I held every one right below the 3:30 mark, which is the goal I am reaching for the marathon. I am really hoping these 800’s will translate into my goal marathon time – only 25 more days until I find out!! My training plan is getting awfully green!! It’s hard to believe that Marcus and I did our first set of 800’s almost 3 months ago. Marathon training goes by so fast!!!
This morning when I was out running, I was thinking about how fast it felt like I was going in the dark. I looked down, and I was right on pace, but it felt wayyy faster! Does this every happen to you in the dark? The lack of light making you think you are going faster than you really are? It always takes me about an extra 1/2 mile or so to feel warmed up in the morning, but then I am really able to cruise – no digestive issues, no sun beating down, on me. I love morning running, can ya tell??
The Best Hotel Gym
I promise, this is my last post about my fun weekend in Sarasota. I just have to share the cool perks this hotel has for active people! They are too few and far between!
I was determined on Saturday to make it to the gym, even though we were on vacation. I slipped out early to get in my strength workout, and stumbled on an amazing workout facility!
I find that so many hotel gyms are somewhat lacking in the equipment department. You know what I’m talking about. They may have a treadmill or two, and maybe a rack of free weights if you are lucky. Nope, not the Ritz. I should have known they would do it up to the max! There were a ton a cardio machines (treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes),
Plenty of cabled weight machines
And a nice area for free weights, including dumbbells from 1 lb (yep, they make those), all the way up to 100 lbs. Have you ever seen a weight so tiny?! I couldn’t believe it!
I started off my gym session with a workout similar to the circuit workout I posted a couple of months ago, only I swapped the squats for some lunges.
And I added some jumping pull ups at the end. If I am ever going to get my pull-ups, I need to start getting serious about those! I hadn’t planned on doing any cardio, but I had to squeeze some in at the end. The treadmills I am used to are a bit outdated, and the ones at the hotel gym were top of the line! A quick mile was no big deal. I had to share it with all of you after all I was given the option to pick my trainer, and completely customize the workout to what I wanted. I was even able to plug-in my iPod (if I brought it), and control it through the machine. This is definitely the coolest treadmill I have used (other than the LSPRO 2 of course).
After the workout, I grabbed Marcus and we headed over to the hotel’s beach club. Since the hotel is not directly on the Gulf of Mexico, they have an amazing area where you can go to enjoy the sun and sand! Enjoy we did – relaxing by the pool for the day was the perfect way to wrap up our anniversary trip. Seriously, if you get the chance to come visit the Ritz Carlton Sarasota, you have to jump at the chance! It is such an amazing facility. I can’t wait to (one day) go back!
So what about you – do you feel faster (or slower) when running in the dark? Who else is wrapping up marathon training? And as for the gym – what other hotels have such great workout facilities?
