My rest week is officially over, and it feels great to be able to get out and exercise again! I am unfortunately not one of those people who can jump right back into training after a marathon. I really need the time for my body to recover, which I definitely learned the hard way in the past (hint: long, drawn out injuries). Now I embrace the time off, and really enjoy it. After all, I only have 25 days until I am back in training mode for Chicago!
Marcus and I hopped on our bikes yesterday afternoon, and went for an hour ride around the area we live. It was an awesome day to just be outside and move! We kept the pace pretty easy, and were just enjoying each other’s company and the time to exercise. I love that about riding – chatting and the wind keeping you cool on a hot day!
What a better way to end a rest week than with a fiesta! Saturday, as you all know, was Cinco de Mayo and the 138th Kentucky Derby!
With all of my family living in Kentucky, I still like to embrace the race, even living in Florida, so we had a Cinco de Derby party! We had an absolute blast! There were of course some drinks for the theme, margaritas and mint juleps,
Some super tasty food (thank you Pinterest!),
And the best part…. amazing friends to celebrate with! I’m so glad that Callie, the mini-athlete, Courtney, and Steph all came to enjoy the festivities!
A few quick shout outs:
Congrats to Callie, who was awarded quite an honor by Fitness Magazine! Check it out!!
Meghann and Kelly kicked butt at their marathon this weekend! Congrats on such an awesome race!!
Now its time to get back into the work week, and focus on making another marathon training plan for the weeks to come! Wow, Chicago is creeping up quick!! Happy Monday everyone!!
How were your Cinco de Mayo and Kentucky Derby celebrations!? Anyone else looking into a fall marathon plan? Have you found a good one?!

The bike ride sounds perfect. Actually, sounds like you had a really great weekend. Love that!
Love the photos… especially the comic. I have a Fall marathon in Fresno, CA. Don’t know what the plan will be leading up to it, but I know it will include a run the following day. I’m training for my first 50 miler in December and back to back run days are essential. Hope to follow your journey once you find a plan. Cheers.
The mint julep cupcakes are totally cute!!!
Thanks! They were so tasty too!
