Giving It A Tri

After months of convincing, I finally decided to take the plunge…

I will be doing my first triathlon at the end of July! Throughout training for the Country Music Marathon, I made cross training a very important part of my plan, and I will be doing that again for Chicago. My favorite ways to cross train have been swimming and biking, so it only seems natural to go ahead and put all three together. It is a sprint triathlon (.25 mile swim, 10 mile bike, 5k run), so I am very confident that I will be able to do it, and do it well. Plus, a few little birdies have been convincing me as well..

(Courtney and I)

Those are my awesome friends that really pushed me in the pool on Wednesday (We miss you Courtney!). It was my very first true swimming “workout”, and it was crazy tough! I was huffing and puffing and really felt my arms and legs burn. I am looking forward to many more workouts with this crew!

Anyone else attacking a triathlon for the first time this summer? Do you have any tips for a noobie!!??

I’ve never done a tri, but have always wanted to. I’m not much of a swimmer and it gives me anxiety to think about being in a crowded water space with a bunch of other people where my only option is to swim for my life!

You’re going to love it! Tris are really, really fun. My advice would be to start incorporating some “bricks” into your routine once/week. This is where you ride first then hop off the bike and run a shorter distance. Also, as silly as it sounds, do some transition practice b/c you don’t want to lose time there during the race fumbling around!

Way to go!! I’m thinking a Tri will be one of my 2013 New Years Resolutions. I’m working on a half marathon this summer.
