3 Day weekends are really the best. It is amazing how much fun it is to have just 24 more hours added to some time off. After volunteering last weekend at the Florida Ironman 70.3, it was only fitting that we went and spectated one on Saturday. The group of friends that I have been training are all seasoned triathletes, so they are all ready for triathlon season. I wasn’t quite ready to race again after the Country Music Marathon, so Marcus and I sat this one out and participated in another intense activity – spectating!

I had to get in a run anyhow, so I wore my running clothes and decided I would get in some distance while everyone else was racing. I ended up just bringing my camera with me, and was able to get some fun shots of all my friends while cheering them on. Whoever says spectating isn’t fun just isn’t doing it right! I saw all of my teammates multiple times, on the swim, bike, and the run. I’m pretty sure by the end they were sick of me
Awesome job Felipe, Jess, Chuck, Court, Steph, and Meghann!
After the triathlon, we all grabbed our tubes and headed over to Rainbow Springs for an awesome river float! Check out Meghann’s recap to see what an amazing day it was!
So after volunteering and spectating triathlons over the past 2 weekends, Marcus and I are totally fired up to complete our first one! We decided yesterday that we wanted to give a brick workout a shot, just to see what it felt like. We went from cycling for about an hour
to running a little less than 2 miles.
It was sooo weird for the first 1/2 mile or so! My legs felt awful and I was sooo out of breath. It was amazing how long my heart rate stayed at a very high level. We were running about an 8 minute pace for the running portion, which definitely felt like work. I am glad to start doing more workouts like the one we did yesterday, and then eventually get into some true brick workouts, with bike – run – bike – run – bike – run intervals. I’m tired just thinking about it!
Now I am off to celebrate the day in true Memorial Day style – relaxing by the pool with friends. I hope you are somewhere doing the same! Enjoy your day off!!
Have you ever done a brick workout? What did you think? Do you think the help prepare you for race day?

Thanks for coming out and cheering us on yesterday! It’s always encouraging to see a familiar face out there on the course.
Who’s ready for 6:30AM swim practice?!
Thanks for coming and for all the support!
I don’t intend on doing any Tris soon but brick workouts look like a great challenge! I think I’d like to try incorporating it as part of my cross training soon. ESPECIALLY the swim part since it’s been so hot lately. Props for volunteering and taking pics of your friends out on the course
I bet they appreciated the support!
I haven’t done a brick in awhile, but you are right, they feel SO weird! In triathlons I actually have more difficulty going from swim to bike…I’m not a strong swimmer, and I am always so disoriented coming out of the water!
I recently did my first brick workout ever. I didn’t even know what a brick workout was until I saw it on the training plan my coach gave me and had him explain it to me. My only goal in the workout was to not be found on the side of the road passed out. It wasn’t easy.
