A Few Firsts

This weekend had a lot of firsts – here we go!

  • I ran with my Garmin for the first time since the marathon. I have been a-ok not knowing how fast (or slow!) I have been running, but I needed it this weekend to know my distance. I ran 9 miles around 8am, and I now know that summer is here in full force! I definitely see a lot of 5:30 am runs in my future. This Florida heat is pretty rough! Knowing how to deal with it for the next few months is key!
  • I attended my first Vinyasa Yoga class at the local Lululemon store. The instructor, Ashley, was from the Yoga Loft over in Ybor City, and was amazing! She was incredibly knowledgable and made the class a lot of fun with a few new poses thrown into the practice. I will definitely be back!

  • It was the first Sunday in June, which meant it was the Hyde Park Farmer’s Market! The market is pretty good, with a lot of vendors serving many types of food. The big thing it lacks is any fresh flowers. Any flower vendors out there!? I would love to buy some at the market! ;) We grabbed an ice coffee and some really amazing bread – banana nut bread and blueberry banana bread. Yummm!!!
We opened the banana nut bread as soon as we got home! It was so moist and tasty. I will definitely be going back for more next month!!
  • Today was my first workout for my new training plan! I had Yasso 4×800′s on tap for today, and got them finished bright and early. I can definitely tell this was my very first workout in a while. My legs were pretty heavy from yesterday’s long run, and my turnover needed a little work too. I have a lot of work ahead of me until Chicago, and I am happy that I have 18 weeks to do it!

Don’t forget… Wednesday is National Running Day!! Get out and get in a mile (or a few!)

Any other firsts this weekend?!

Running in heat is tough! That banana bread looks delish.
Our first this weekend was my youngest skated in her first ice show. So sweet!

So smart to ditch the Garmin for a while! And I love a good farmer’s market–gotta get to mine soon!

I’m planning to do some Yasso’s this week, too! I’m in Texas, first summer here, and I’m realizing you can’t even escape the heat in the wee early morning hours… hopefully we’ll be stronger runners for it? :)

Way to go Mary! Tell me more about this market? When is it and do they have fresh produce and meats, etc?

    See you soon Mary!
